Explore the Belair forest on the North Star Trail. The 25km long trail was once an old logging trail and the only trail to the beaches. Now the trail is used for recreation driving, hiking and mountain bike riding. The road can get pretty rough at times but offers a good hour and half to 2 hours of exploring by truck. The Trail has many interesting attractions and lots of wildlife if you don’t make too much noise.
Most of the trail is sandy and well worn in but, some parts become more rocky and others more swamp like. It’s suggested that if you are going to drive the trail, make sure you are well equiped with a reliable truck and safety kit. Make sure you also have good tires and as well as spare just in case. The trail takes you to stead road, 25 kms south but the trail system can take you to many places including Victoria beach, pine falls and all over the Grand Beach Area. To get there, drive north on Highway 59, past the Grand Beach turn off and on the way to Victoria Beach. You have to keep a close eye on the right side of the road beacause you will miss the trail sign if you don’t. Look for the sign you see at the top of this post. It’s the turn off you are looking for. If you reach the Belair turn off road on the right, you have gone too far. Be careful in the trail system to stay on the designated paths. It is possible to get lost in here and if you run out of gas, it could be a long walk. |
